The economy...is it getting better?

Postby girlie79 » 08 Jan 2013, 05:22

Do you think that the economy has recovered at all since the 2008 crisis? If not do you think that it ever will?

I personally do not feel that the economy has recovered, and I don't expect it too after this length of time. There are so many unemployed people, and even a lot of people with jobs can't make ends meet.

I don't think that the economy has recovered at all for "normal" people. The really wealthy and businesses may have seen a bit of improvement. Until the US moves away from being a service based economy it will never improve for those at the lower end of the scale.

More recently, however, unemployment has fallen more quickly among the long-term jobless than among the broader population. In the past year, the number of long-term unemployed workers has dropped by 830,000, accounting for nearly the entire 843,000-person drop in overall joblessness.

As a result,

The average unemployed worker has now been looking for 38 weeks, down from a peak of nearly 41 weeks and the lowest level since early 2011.

We're still far way from full employment. We're further away from an economy where workers can expect sustained increases in wages, supposing such an economy to be in our future at all. But still: better.
